Craig and Svieta's visit to Cumbrae, the island of the west coast of Scotland but barely an hours drive from Glasgow and still one of the most popular local holiday and weekend destinations for families since the 1850's. However, these days the visitors come at weekends and a huge business has built up for cyclists and walkers. Its only 2.5 miles around the island which boasts magnificent scenery and superb facilities for an easy visit. We stayed in the recently restored Royal George Hotel where Margaret, the owner really did look after us and all her guests. Lovely rooms fully restored and with up to date furnishings, great breakfasts and excellent friendly hospitality. Well, I have to say something here. I have travelled all over the world in my quest for that perfect landscape. I se these in my books and little did I realise that there was no place like home. I am now exploring Scotland. It never told me that it had such beautiful scenery. Or perhaps I did not pay attention to what was on my 'AIN DOORSTEP'

The Royal George has now been put up[ for sale and the asking price is offers over £500,000 which is about what you would pay for a small house on the outskirts of London the only difference being that you are buying into a wee piece of heaven and without the stress of the city
