The new HSS:

Impact resistant thin padding in the front and back of the arch and heel, new thinner durable 3/4 back sole for a better support and a better arch line
Outer and inner sole for superb feel of floor while giving great comfort
Double stitched glued outer sole and seams
Slightly rounder vamp for a more natural look as the shoe stretches around the toes

The front of the shoe has the unique curved top line to the vamp to allow the shoe to bend into the toe without compressing the toe area. Using a special thinner outer sole and inner sole, you will still feel the floor while still having some protection from impact from constant pressure on the ball of the foot.

The toe is slightly rounder now which allows the shoe to better stretch into the natural shape of the from of the foot. The arch and heel fit like a glove.
The entire shoe is hand made and we take special care with the eyelets, stitching and materials for the Hullachan. The special padding can absorb a great deal of impact and is used in the orthopedic industry. The leather is hand tooled and carefully chosen to work with your feet while not over stretching. The sole is glued with our specially commissioned adhesive for strength and the double stitched edges are there for your further security. This truly is a shoe for the 21st century. No gimmicks, just pure shoe making at its very best for the very best dancers.

The shoes come in three widths. Narrow, with Green insoles, Medium with Grey insoles and Wide with Blue insoles.

About the name of the shoe:

Designed by Craig Coussins from ideas given to him by his mother Sadie Simpson. Craig Coussins was trained as a shoe designer and fitter by the famous Brenna Family. John Brenna senior made the shoe for the worlds most famous Ballerina of the beginning of the 20th century, Anna Pavlova and many other famous ballerinas and dancers for over fifty years. His son John was the senior designer and fitter to the Royal Ballet and many international Ballet Companies. Craig joined their company and was trained by them for years and eventually became the senior designer and fitter for their company in charge of the fitting of over 162 professional dance companies around the world. Craig started Hullachan in 1995 after leaving the dance shoe company he worked for and Hullachan only makes Celtic shoes which is closer to Craig's Irish and Scottish background.

Sadie Simpson married Jack Coussins in the late 1930's but retained her name and became one of the worlds top judges of Highland Dance teaching Craig and his two brothers along the way. From the 1960's Miss Simpson traveled to Canada and America introducing the British Association of Teachers of Dancing , the B.A.T.D. and during these numerous visits she made many lifelong friends. A dedicated teacher and adjudicator, Miss Simpson took a great interest in the proper shoes for the dance and was instrumental in helping her son Craig bring to the dance fraternity, the famous Hullachan a brand that Miss Simpson registered in 1970 to the Coussins family.
